Today I sat my 5 year old son and 3 year old daughter down to try out a game of Battletech, 4th Ed.
You would think this is a fools errand but its much easier for them to grasp if you narrate the game to them and let them move the minis and roll the dice like a board game (1/?)

The match this lopsided ended almost as soon as it started: Son rolled snake-eyes and lost initiative again, and chose to charge his hunchback into me and succeeded, dealing a whopping 20 damage, which then went straight to my head. That was that. Son had a blast so gg no re.

Last note is our homemade maps: which were apparently different planets. Neat feature is they all have a second map on the back: mine is a desert bound junkheap with a ravine and a mountain side. The back is a cave with a low roof and a spike-filled pit.
