Mic Distance - Only for condenser mics, not dynamic mics. Get a little closer or further back depending on the recording, but here's a good place to start. Pic via @VOvoiceactor
Why is the mic upside down? Here's why: Microphone capsules (top part) last longer if they're not catching heat rising up from the tube. Hang the condenser mic upside down, and the only heat on that capsule is your hot vocal. π₯

For Film and Music: Always leave headroom on your final mixes before mastering. Measured in decibels, headroom is the space between the peak of your audio & 0db which is max before distortion. Make sure your audio never peaks above -6db anywhere in the recording.
Podcast Recording Tip:
Record each guest on their own track so you can edit them individually. Check the levels on each track when recording. With digital recording it's better to record too low than too high. Digital distortion is hard to get rid of and sounds nasty. #podcast
