Replying to @GovKathyHochul
@GovKathyHochul please veto S-138, which would enable the laxest MAiD program in the US: No wait period. No psych screening. Incredibly lax oversight. the American Medical Association has condemned MAiD the bill is ableist & bad for the vulnerable. And it legalizes su***de. 1/2
It is incredibly irresponsible to legalize MAiD in NY without an account of why s***ide is normally wrong It's not at all clear that S-138's proponents have an account of this They assume the stigma against s—— will stick, but the reasons they cite for MAiD all support it:

🚨 BREAKING: We have filed lawsuits in New York and Illinois challenging assisted suicide laws. People with disabilities deserve equal protection under the law, not a two-tiered system that treats some suicides as tragedies and others as solutions. #EndAssistedSuicide

A happy & egalitarian marriage involves *both people* marrying up — just along different axes. There are *many axes* but gestation & income are both v salient ones. Since 100% of ppl who can gestate are women, if we want more egalitarian marriages, men need something too. 1/n

It could be more income (eg a setup where men on average significantly outearn women) It could also be an unpaid but distinctively masculine contribution, eg hard physical labor Or it could be some kind of distintivelyl masculine prestige 3/n

Yes, these all look like patriarchy — and yes, there are ways this can go badly wrong But this stuff is not all zero sum We need to develop ways to appreciate men-qua-men (from which women will be excluded) & vice versa 4/n

Women make 100% of the gestational contribution to society. If men are equal to women they should also be allowed to contribute in a distinctive way.

Offering MAiD devalues the lives of the terminally ill. And it pressures them to die. Ppl usually don't request MAiD for pain. Instead, they want to avoid disability & being a "burden." But the terminally ill are not a "burden"; their lives are incredibly valuable.
“MAiD is not really about making death better for the dying; instead, it’s about making their death more convenient for everyone else. Or, to put it more charitably, MAiD is about sparing the dying from needing to inconvenience anyone.” @AudreyPollnow

From the ashes of the Girl Boss era has arisen the notorious tradwife, with her sourdough starter, homemade soaps, and chapel veil. Alas, the allure of careerism turned out not to keep you warm at night, and the promises of neoliberal individualism didn’t really provide satisfy in the end (who would’ve thought!?). Yet for most sensible-women, the reactionary, LARP-y antics of performative tradwifery are low-key cringe and hard to take seriously. Besides, where can you find a man these days to provide for you and your 6 children on his income alone? Where can one even find a good man these days—one who isn’t a total soyboy or a creepy manosphere-pilled edgelord? It be tough out here for the ladies these days. Lucky for you, Cracks in Postmodernity is rallying together a crew of cool, funky, and nuance-pilled females to help you sort out all your questions about womanhood, vocation, and work. @default_friend @AudreyPollnow @RuffingBridget

Could we dramatically simplify medical billing? Since you give your insurance card at EVERY APPOINTMENT it should be easy: all providers could accept payment via a bill-pay portal linked to your insurance account. This would be huge for providers & for patients.

worth noting that Alpha employs *higher mastery standards* than the programs it uses, and it takes pedegogical research quite seriously. that said, I definitely have some things on my wishlist for their software 6/

another philosophical problem that arises out of the AI-customization approach: why bother studying the humanities *at all*? (If it's just "to get ahead" it probably ain't worth it! Instead it involves other people & aesthetics in a way that AI can't grok.) 9/

& I think gamification should have a more limited role than @jliemandt does It's *more important* to learn 1. what's worth shooting for and 2. how to work in a non-gamified way when necessary than to learn more content @ all costs Bc 1. is the goal & 2. is often a prereq 10/10
