Disaster preparedness is addressing risks before disasters occur. Viliami is a National Cluster Coordinator, supporting Tonga's National Disaster Risk Management Office through the @austassists program.
He has supported Tonga's disaster response and recovery through the global pandemic and the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai volcanic eruption and tsunami. Today, his focus has shifted on disaster preparedness and risk mitigation, especially at a local level.
His efforts to train local village disaster risk management committees on how to conduct initial damage assessments and using technology helps ensure data is received in real time to coordinate relief.
