Thirty-nine years ago Essendon lured East Perth's Wayne Otway to Windy Hill, where he made his VFL debut on this day in 1982. And what a debut it was — 28 touches and five goals as @essendonfc defeated Footscray by 109 points to kick off the season. australianfootball.com/game/…

The Blues haven't had a happy start to the 2021 #AFL season, but here's something to cheer up the Carlton fans. On this day in 1983 Alex Marcou picked up 25 kicks as the Blues thrashed Richmond by 10 goals in the 1982 GF replay. australianfootball.com/game/…

0 has never been a final score in AFL/AFLW history, 4 is the only other score under 200 never recorded. #AFLW #AFLWCatsRoos @7AFL @FOXFOOTY @NigelCarmody

OBSCURE FOOTY BIO #683: He only played two VFL matches (likely taking the field in only one of them) but it's his 100th birthday today, so I've written a bio for South Melbourne's Jack Lugg: australianfootball.com/playe… #AFL

NEW STORY! Bryan Crimmins, born 100 years ago today, was best known as the father of Hawthorn's Peter but, though he played only one game for Melbourne in 1944, he was the subject of a mini 'trade war' with South Melbourne that year. Here's my story: australianfootball.com/artic…

NEW COLUMN! If you think you know everything that went down in the #AFLTrade period, I'm here to prove you wrong. Anagrams, bad puns and postcodes abound in my in-depth* analysis of all 18 clubs' trade efforts. Check it out: australianfootball.com/artic… *In-depthness not guaranteed.

A lot of @Richmond_FC fans would have been hoping to read about the Tigers beating Collingwood in the coming days. That won't happen, but here's Mic Rees recounting Richmond's come-from-nowhere win over the Pies in the 1973 Preliminary Final: australianfootball.com/artic…

Another brilliant piece of research and reminiscence from Mic Rees. Here he looks back at @PortMelbourneFC's hat-trick of VFA flags under Gary Brice in 1980-82. australianfootball.com/artic… #VFA #VFL

That we are not sure. What we have atm is: He failed to attend all compulsory drill training (before WW1 broke out) , as he had a previous conviction (robbery with 4 boys) He did run a pool hall ...so may have worked on that.

Today marks 130 years since the birth of Fitzroy's Jack Cooper. Best afield in the 1913 premiership win, Cooper played 136 games over 9 seasons for the Maroons before enlisting in the armed services. He was later killed in action in France, aged just 28. australianfootball.com/playe…

Tom Clarke, father of premiership player Jack and champion distance runner Ron, and a fine football player in his own right, was born 112 years ago today. @Jaypeedee1956's bio of Tom: australianfootball.com/playe…
Geelong's Billy McCarter was born on this day 130 years ago. A dashing back pocket, McCarter played 114 games for the Pivotonians between 1913 and 1924. That figure would have been much higher but for McCarter's five years of military service. australianfootball.com/playe…

.@melbournefc's Derek Mollison was born on this day in 1901. Mollison played 66 games in the red and blue between 1923 and 1928. He tragically lost his life in World War II. australianfootball.com/playe…
