Thirty-nine years ago Essendon lured East Perth's Wayne Otway to Windy Hill, where he made his VFL debut on this day in 1982. And what a debut it was — 28 touches and five goals as @essendonfc defeated Footscray by 109 points to kick off the season.

The Blues haven't had a happy start to the 2021 #AFL season, but here's something to cheer up the Carlton fans. On this day in 1983 Alex Marcou picked up 25 kicks as the Blues thrashed Richmond by 10 goals in the 1982 GF replay.

He failed to attend all compulsory drill training (before WW1 broke out) , as he had a previous conviction (robbery with 4 boys)
He did run a pool hall ...so may have worked on that.

Today marks 130 years since the birth of Fitzroy's Jack Cooper. Best afield in the 1913 premiership win, Cooper played 136 games over 9 seasons for the Maroons before enlisting in the armed services. He was later killed in action in France, aged just 28. australianfootball.com/playe…
