See, this is where basic football knowledge comes in. At Wolves, Cunha was the main man. Everything in attack went through him. He had the freedom to carry the ball, create chances, and be the focal point of the team.
At Manchester United, it's completely different. He isn't the only attacking outlet. There are established structures, bigger expectations, and more players sharing goals and responsibilities. He has to fit into a system rather than be the system.
What's even more impressive is that despite moving into a new environment, he still produced strong numbers. In fact, United had three players scoring more than 10 goals last season, which very few Premier League teams managed. That tells you the attacking burden was spread across the squad, unlike at Wolves where a lot depended on Cunha.
Also, let's not forget his first season at Wolves. He joined in January 2023 and managed just 2 Premier League goals in 17 appearances. It wasn't until his first full season (2023/24) that he exploded with 12 league goals and 7 assists.
So if he's already putting up good numbers in his first season at a bigger club with more competition for goals, that says more about his quality than it does about any supposed decline.
Matheus Cunhaโs move to Manchester United was a mistake, he has been a shadow of himself since he joined the club, a guy who was the heartbeat of that wolves team, has been struggling to hit form ever since he joined man united.
If care is not taken, heโd underperform next season because I donโt see him having the needed energy to play Champions League, Premier League and cups while still trying to adapt.
