Trump is Homer Simpson and Ds are Frank Grimes. Rs are Homers buddies who get he's not perfect, but he's "their guy". Ds, like Frank Grimes, can't get over their outrage at Trump and everything they do to "prove it" backfires.

The problem with elite Ds and never Trumpers is they are far more offended by Trump than the general public and it clouds what they say and its effect. Sykes is a smart guy reduced to a child name calling. And if you say “but Trump does it too” you just proved the point
Donald Trump is a mendacious liar, rapist, and felon. His prefrontal cortex is a bunch of black bananas, and his standard speech pattern is gibbering nonsense. But all of that is shrugged off as standard Trumpian fare. No prominent Republican left standing is calling for him to drop out. open.substack.com/pub/charli…

You have to understand that for the Washington DC media, the federal government is their world. So when they say "democracy" what they actually mean is "bureaucracy." And a "dictator" would be an elected official who would actually be an executive and not a figurehead.

Golf is hard because it requires you to use your lower body for stability and to generate power. And most amateur golfers do neither. And then spend money to change where the hands and arms should move. And consciously focusing on your arms creates an ever greater reliance on the upper body, making everything worse. Swing with your legs.

Trump can go against far right ideologies out in the open with 0 consequences- can you name one other politician - R or D that can do the same on their side? Gota admit his power and skill if you want to move on, whether R or D.
Sorry pro-lifers upset by the new platform language. Because you know you’ll vote for the GOP, they knew they could do it.

The primary motivation for human decision-making is maintaining personal emotional security and relevance. This is why understanding, aligning and meeting others’ emotional needs will always yield positive results (in sales or otherwise). It's everyone’s unconscious priority. But people deny it because awareness of our emotional nature often disrupts our emotional security. Round and round we go…

Restructuring commitments under NATO. How to get engagement and attention for the issue? Option A: “we should restructure NATO for x y z good reasons” Option B: “I’m going to end NATO” A is how we want humans to engage B is how humans engage

Ds would be better served celebrating biden to get him out. If they create the narrative that he succeeded in his mission (plausibly did by “stopping Trump”), no need for him to stay. Attacking him (current approach it seems) will harden inner circles stance that establishment “never wanted or respected Biden”, so he has to fight. Biden still may drop out but it risks straining relationships and cash Ds need to beat Trump

@Eldricks_hoes plays an extremely important role on golf twitter. He sets a standard, and does so consistently. His value doesn’t depend on him being “right”, whatever that may mean. A standard offers everyone comparison, enabling them to establish their status against the one snob offers. Think snob is a dick? Ignore him and decide you “are not like him”/his type Agree with snob? You can live up to his standard, including as an aspirational goal. Not sure? Take in the data points he offers and decide for yourself. We need way more people establishing standards to everyone can leverage it to establish their status and more importantly, feel good about themselves.

@dieworkwear similarly offers a standard for men’s fashion.

We communicate messages not truths. Messages are truths modified by our personal interests and biases and often incorporate the assumed (or known) reactions of the audience. We know this. Think about how we speak to children or superiors or partners or family. But when we’re the audience, we assume and demand the messages we hear are truth. We get mad they’re not. The opportunity lies instead in analyzing how and why that message was given. Of course it’s annoying to think about. That’s why it works.

independent AI is an impossibility. the human condition prevents independence. its heisenberg uncertainty applied to humans -- we are what we seek to understand and explain, so our knowledge is always relative.
Some are saying that the apparently bizarre behavior of one Big Tech AI or another is an opportunity for other Big Tech AI to differentiate by being objective, reasonable, and unbiased. This is not the case; there is no differentiation opportunity among Big Tech or the New Incumbents in AI. These companies all share the same ideology, agenda, staffing, and plan. Different companies, same outcomes. And they are lobbying as a group with great intensity to establish a government protected cartel, to lock in their shared agenda and corrupt products for decades to come. The only viable alternatives are Elon, startups, and open source — all under concerted attack by these same big companies and aligned pressure groups in DC, the UK, and Europe, and with vanishingly few defenders.

“AI” may make us finally appreciate the human condition and the inability to create a decentralized process to generate morals.
22 Feb 2024
If there's one takeaway from this woke AI drama, it's that AI morals need to come from a decentralized process. They can't come from on high, they need to emerge from the bottom-up. The most promising attempt to solve this problem I've seen are the folks at the Meaning Alignment Institute - @meaningaligned - they are trying to build an LLM that's trained on the personal values of 1000s of different volunteers, from across the political spectrum, by asking them to input examples of what they find *personally meaningful* in their own lives over the past day/week/year. This is the most sane and balanced approach I've heard towards LLM development thus far and I hope we see more of the big labs formally adopt this kind of hive-mind method to morality.

Things feel different when you realize (1) a guy talking a lot about himself in an annoying way and (2) me relaying the story about (1) to my wife are both just attempts to acknowledge ourselves (in my case, “I’m not that”). It’s the same game to boost self esteem that differs only in form.

its one of the reasons they are techno optimists. they seek to transcend the human, often at the cost of being human
25 Dec 2023
Techno optimists (generally speaking) freaked out over Covid, took the vaccine, don’t even lift, and overall live in fear and disgust of their bodies. They are gnostics rebranded. Merry Christmas!

ChatGPT and others always sound confident and right, regardless of whether the answer is correct. This is bc the programming prioritizes sounding right, not being right. That means if there is "skin in the game" to get a right answer, you need to be an expert to use it (to know when the answer is BS) and its value is efficiency (since the users are already experts).
