I lived here through February. Markets cleared, DIFC never shut, liquidity facility was live. The placation angle doesn't match what residents watched unfold!
The UAE was targeted more heavily by Iran than any other Gulf state during the war precisely because it has so much to lose. Its position as a global financial hub — and its ambitions to lead in AI and other advanced technologies — depend on a reputation for stability. Yet part of the UAE’s commercial appeal has also been the financial opacity and permissiveness that allow illicit money to move through Dubai.
The UAE appears to believe that preserving stability requires placating the Iranian regime. But that approach has steadily eroded its financial integrity and credibility. That is why its denials that it is helping release billions of dollars to the Iranian regime are unlikely to put the allegations to rest.
I joined @i24NEWS_EN to discuss the allegations and what Washington should demand from the UAE moving forward.
