Couldn't care less if people like Marathon or not, not everything is for everyone but you can't deny it is probably the most stylistically interesting FPS we've seen in years (art, lore, world building) it has some cool mechanics and feels snappy. That's already a lot more than many successful games had and it's not even out yet.
