Makes me hopeful seeing Meta’s AI wearables helping make technology more accessible and useful for people living with disabilities:
>New AI glasses features are designed to be more intuitive and hands-free for people who are blind, low vision, or have mobility disabilities.
>Be My Eyes integration is expanding, letting users start hands-free video calls with trusted contacts or trained support reps from brands like Tesco, Sony, Amtrak and Hilton.
>New voice controls will make it easier to manage calls across WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and Be My Eyes without touching a phone or frames.
>Real-time captions on Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses can help make calls more accessible in noisy or busy environments.
>The Meta Wearables Device Access Toolkit is enabling developers to build third-party assistive apps, including tools like OOrion and Aira for real-time visual assistance.
>Meta is also exploring EMG through the Meta Neural Band to help people with spinal cord injuries control digital devices through subtle muscle signals.
Today, ahead of Global Accessibility Awareness Day, we’re rolling out new features on our AI glasses designed to be more intuitive and hands-free — updates that make the technology more accessible to people across diverse communities, including those who are blind or low vision, or those with mobility disabilities.
