Today is the beginning of the Christian Lent season. This is the Christian equivalent of Ramadan. Lent is a 40days fast for Christians.
And to whom it may concern:
In all of the southern Nigerian states,
Many of which are Christian majority;
NO SCHOOLS HAVE BEEN CLOSED.
NOBODY WILL BE ARRESTED FOR NOT FASTING. NO CHILD WILL BE DEPRIVED OF EDUCATION BECAUSE SOME PEOPLE ARE FASTING. Non Christians will not be tortured, dehumanised or oppressed because some christians are fasting.
Many of you may not be aware of Lent,
Because to christians, Fasting is a personal religious duty and it is not a performative exercise to score some religious narcissistic virtue points.
The Christianity in southern Nigeria is not a religious death cult. We do not use violence to enforce compliance, we do not utilise a lunatic religious police to oppress non-christians and we do not weaponise the power of the state to carry out a hateful intolerant religious oppression of those who are non christians or who have no religion at all.
We hope that our friends and fellow countrymen from other parts of Nigeria will learn the noble virtue of allowing religious freedom, stop engaging in hateful treatment of non-Muslims, end the perpetual religious persecution of non-Muslims, and review the extremist intolerant policies of state-sponsored religious oppression which allow some bigoted religious lunatics and extremist hate mob to use government powers to totally trample on the rights of other people. There are many sane Muslims who do not support this, we appreciate them and I pray they speak up more.
Because in the end,
Religious oppression is utilising the power of the state with readiness to engage in barbaric violence to enforce the dictates of one religion on the entirety of a multi-religious state and all the people within that society, without any regard for those who do not adhere to those religious beliefs.
May God bless Muslims in this Ramadan. May God bless christians in this Lent.
May God hear all of our prayers.
Thank you.
