Great discussion in our @AxiomMaths Circle today. Year 7s tested “Mission Impossible?” statements and explained whether they were possible or impossible, showing fantastic reasoning!

In Axiom Maths last week... students worked in pairs on the Sum-One Wins challenge — spotting patterns, testing ideas and uncovering hidden connections between numbers. Through lively discussion, students explained their thinking, challenged each other and represented their ideas using networks. Fantastic teamwork, curiosity and confident maths talk throughout! @AxiomMaths #MathsReasoning #LearningTogether #MathsTalk #MathsLearning #ProblemSolving #ThinkingSkills

Introducing the Axiom Maths enrichment programme! In the first term of the new year, Axiom mathematicians have been busy with rich problem-solving! This week’s maths auction focused on optimal solution: thinking about constraints, comparing strategies, and justifying why answers couldn’t be improved. Reasoning matters! @AxiomMaths #MathsLearning #ProblemSolving #ThinkingSkills

We often hear people say that in the age of AI you no longer need to be good at maths, you just need social skills. This analysis shows that’s wrong - you need both! Mathematics is becoming ever more important as the opportunities from new technology get bigger. And the greatest value sits with people who can not only “do” the maths, but explain it and collaborate. This is what pupils learn in Axiom Maths circles. Maths gives you the edge: not just because of what you know, but because of how you use it.
Counter to the prevailing view, soft skills more than quantitative competency have seen the biggest rewards in the labour market over recent years, writes John Burn-Murdoch. ft.trib.al/Kf3UYah

🍬Sweets come in packets of 12, 15 or 20. How many packets did you buy if you got exactly 86 sweets? How would you approach this problem? When pupils aren’t sure where to begin, some freeze, some guess, others start to reframe the problem. 👇In our first blog of 2026, we explore: why problem solving rests on deep organised knowledge, the behaviours pupils need to tackle challenging problems and how teachers can nurture a culture of confident mathematical thinking.

❄️ December in schools can be tough: dark days, tired minds, and the pressure to “lighten” maths with games. But why do we save the fun for the final week? And what does that say about maths the rest of the year? Our latest blog explores how joy rigour can (and should!) coexist. ✨ Read the blog: axiommaths.com/blog/why-fun-…

✨ New case study! At The Market Weighton school in rural Yorkshire, limited buses home can make after-school clubs a challenge for many pupils. So the school tried something different: timetabled maths circles. The result? Almost 100% attendance each week. 🎓 Maths circles are thriving in routine and at the start of every session, the group proudly say: “We’re a maths circle and we think like university mathematicians.” 🔗 You can read the full case study on our website linked below.

Mathwyl Cymru! 🏴✨ Maths Week Wales is here and we’re celebrating how maths is for all! Today’s KS4 problem is about exploring patterns and trying out ideas. Want to try it❓ Download the free resource (incl. 3 more challenges guidance). 💡 Hint: A quick diagram can reveal patterns you might not spot at first. 🙋🏼‍♀️ We’d love to see the different approaches you and your pupils take. Mistakes, rough work, creative diagrams all count! #MathsWeekWales #KS4 #MathsGivesYouTheEdge
