Karabakh is widely known for its rich cultural heritage, music traditions and distinctive craftsmanship. Less known, however, is its long-standing equestrian heritage. This heritage lives on through #Chovqan, a traditional horse-riding game played on Karabakh horses. Combining horsemanship, teamwork and traditional knowledge, the game has been practiced for centuries and remains an important expression of cultural identity. Recognizing its significance, UNESCO inscribed Chovqan on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding in 2013. #UNESCO #IntangibleHeritage #Azerbaijan #Chovqan #KarabakhHorse

Did you know? The Cultural Landscape of #Khinalig and the “Köç Yolu” Transhumance Route joined the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2023, recognizing a unique way of life that has been shaped by mountains, migration and traditional knowledge for centuries. Perched at over 2,000 metres above sea level, Khinalig is one of the highest continuously inhabited settlements in the Caucasus. For generations, local communities have preserved seasonal migration routes, pastoral traditions and a unique language spoken nowhere else on Earth. More than a village, Khinalig is a living cultural landscape where people, nature and heritage have remained closely interconnected across centuries. #UNESCO #WorldHeritage #Azerbaijan #Khinalig

Did you know? Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the #HyrcanianForests in Azerbaijan are a living archive of Earth's natural history. Dating back 25–50 million years, these ancient forests survived the Ice Ages and preserve ecosystems that once covered vast parts of the Northern Hemisphere. Home to over 3,200 plant species, 180 bird species and 58 mammal species—including leopard, brown bear and wolf—the Hyrcanian Forests are one of the world's most remarkable biodiversity hotspots. While some trees here are up to 500 years old, the story of the forest itself spans millions of years. #UNESCO #WorldHeritage #Azerbaijan #HyrcanianForests #CaspianCoast
