The Government of Azerbaijan and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) are establishing a new global award in the field of sustainable urban development, the Baku Urban Award. The official launch ceremony of the Baku Urban Award was held as part of WUF13. Established at the initiative of the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan in partnership with UN-Habitat, the new international award aims to promote and scale up advanced urban solutions in the fields of sustainable urban development and adequate housing. The Baku Urban Award is being developed as a global platform to recognize practical urban solutions with the potential to generate long-term social, economic and environmental impact. The Award will become one of the key lasting legacies of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13). Beyond the Forum, it is intended to serve as an international mechanism supporting the long-term advancement of the global urban agenda. The initiative brings together three key dimensions: practical solutions already implemented by urban practitioners, expert knowledge and evidence-based approaches, and the integration of successful practices into national and international policy. The evaluation process will be carried out by an independent jury composed of leading international experts in architecture, urban planning, housing, climate resilience, finance and civil society.
