Citizens should demand a public dashboard from the government itself: outfall map, STP utilisation, stretch-wise water quality, desilting status, encroachment removal progress, contractor names, contract value, milestone due dates, delay reasons, and third-party verification.

@CMOTamilnadu Chennai is not asking for miracles. It is asking for receipts. Put every rupee, every contract, every deadline and every water-quality reading in the open, so the city can judge whether this is reform, status quo, or another expensive performance.

Why are citizens skeptical? Because earlier rounds of funding did not produce visible change. NGT-linked reporting said there was some progress in Cooum but none visible in Adyar and Buckingham Canal. TNPCB-linked reporting said there was no significant improvement in H2O quality

There was also a major administrative sanction of ₹1,281.88 crore tied to Buckingham Canal and associated drains. Yet continued pollution reports show the basic failure remains the same: money can be sanctioned while sewage still flows.

If untreated sewage, garbage, encroachments and blocked drains continue, then “revival” is a political marketing word, not an environmental outcome. The government must publish contract-level milestones and agency-level responsibility, not generic promises.

The public does not need more slogans, animation videos, or manifesto poetry. It needs monthly proof: how many sewage outfalls were identified, how many were plugged, how much STP capacity was commissioned, how much is actually used, and what the BOD and dissolved oxygen readings

On 10 June 2026, the Union government gave in-principle approval for ₹7,500 crore in the first phase under the Urban Challenge Fund for Tamil Nadu projects including Cooum, Adyar and Buckingham Canal restoration. This is big money. It now needs big proof.

.@CMOTamilnadu Chennai has heard this story too many times: Cooum, Adyar and Buckingham Canal will be “revived,” crores will be announced, and the public will still be left with black water, sewage stink and dead stretches. The latest test is now in front of you.

In the post China virus cricket, will cricketers work on the ball with official vaseline and sandpaper supplied by the umpire? Will cricketers be more self aware and stop spitting on the field of dreams? What say you @imVkohli ? #Chinavirus #cricketwillneverebethesame

The world will go through a paradigm shift now, resulting in opportunities for the tech industry and cloud based services. The new gen will now have to adapt to this new normal, a volatile world where nothing can be planned or committed to for the long term.
