Today, I did some aerial photogrammetry from a plane! Due to the cabin being tight and my cam’s viewfinder disp. not rotating, i had to get clever. Using the HDMI input on my @FatsharkRC FPV goggles, I had a clean feed of my camera, which worked super well!

My honest take: I can’t wait to use Steam Frame. But it needed to launch 3 years ago to move the needle on VR beyond hardcore users. The industry is in the midst of a transition to a new class of headset, and Steam Frame already looks dated at launch. I respect the people at Valve for building the thing they personally want to use. I think that ethos will make Frame beloved by a particular group of people, but that group probably isn’t going to grow substantially beyond where it’s at now.

A year ago, my wife and I were in these hills in South Tyrol Now I get to revisit it as a Gaussian splat! Just posted it on SuperSplat - superspl.at/scene/2db4ed71 downloadable with CC4.0-- Go nuts!

Some observations regarding the Gaussian splats in apple maps visionOS 27 - the quality is very consistent. No ghosting, no holes, no semi opaque surfaces. - the off axis views are quite high fidelity. Doesn’t suffer from novel view angles - i don’t see any reflectivity or spherical harmonics. Probably to save bandwidth cost or training speed Impressive stuff!

I believe that Apple Maps in visionOS 27 is a combination of photogrammetry meshes Gaussian splats. Here’s proof (🔈 on)

It’s only been a year since Claude code and “vibe coding” has become a thing It’s incredible how life changing it has been for SO many people. As frustrating as it can be, i am grateful for it every day

Apple now natively supports Gaussian Splats in RealityKit on VisionOS 27. Sample Code : developer.apple.com/document… Current implementation seems capped at 200K points for performance. The resolution also looks a bit scaled down.

Huge Updates to Reality Kit. Including efficient 3DGS rendering! “These enhancements extend beyond visuals. The Reverb Mesh API enables you to simulate realistic spatial audio by accurately modeling how sound is absorbed and scattered across different materials in your environment. RealityKit now efficiently renders 3D Gaussian Splats, enabling you to incorporate photorealistic scans of real-world objects into your virtual experiences. Steam Frame is surely right around the corner and I thought it might be valuable to have a list of free legacy demos and experiences to check out / test things out in. Check out the repo. Would also be great to keep these demos preserved and accessible so please help out with links for the missing files if possible and provide suggestions for missing or further additions. github.com/drjenkin/VR-Demos @Azadux @benz145 #VR #vive #oculus

The tragically hilarious state of stereoscopic 3D gaming The current best method to play modern games in 3D is to 1. Add in VR support using “UEVR” 2. Remove VR support using “VRto3D” but keep geometric 3D rendering I mean, if it works, it works! The fact that this produces a geometrically real 3D image is 1000x better than any depth map or ai 2D->3D conversion system, so big up’s from me

AVs only work well in a high trust society think about it--you wanna rob or assult someone? get in front of their car do your thing. As a passenger, there's no driver who's "in it with you" who needs to preserve their life (and yours) over the perp the only way AVs will work in low trust societies is with defensive weapons from the car
PSA: Do not open your windows in Waymos. I was assaulted and robbed in a Waymo in the Mission District. I was punched three times in the face and head. Waymo treats criminals as pedestrians and stops moving, leaving you vulnerable. They gave me 5 free rides tho

vibe coding without an architecture/platform/stack opinion feels like the wrong thing to do because it is. it always leads to not generating trash

I truly think stereo 3D gaming is something that we’ve lost over the years So many modern 3D gaming solutions all rely on z buffer depth maps (at best) or per-frame ai depth conversions (at worst) True native, geometric stereo 3D gaming (meaning, there are 2 cameras rendering in the 3D environment) is basically a rarity and/or, requires mods that are annoying and complex to set up The only games that work out of the box in 3D properly are from 2010-2014 on PS3, 3DS, some XB360 and PC games from that era

the Armenian word for stork likely originates from Sumerian
looking up etymologies of Armenian words is cool because it occasionally blows your mind. like just now I learned that the word for "translator/interpreter" is ultimately of Akkadian origin
