During the general debate of #COSP19, #Azerbaijan delivered its national statement, highlighting measures undertaken to advance a rights-based, inclusive, and service-oriented approach to disability in line with the #CRPD. It was emphasized that digital transformation has become a key driver in modernizing disability governance. The statement also noted that the official recognition of Azerbaijani Sign Language in national legislation as a language of communication in 2025 will promote greater inclusion and equal access to information for persons with hearing impairments. #Azerbaijan remains committed to further strengthening inclusive policies and ensuring the full and effective participation of persons with disabilities in all areas of life.

On the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations, proclaimed by UNGA Resolution 78/286, Azerbaijan was pleased to participate in the high-level event “Exploring New Pathways for Dialogue Among Civilizations and Jointly Writing New Chapters for Global Governance,” convened by the Permanent Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations. As a co-sponsor of the resolution, Azerbaijan reaffirmed its strong commitment to promoting dialogue, tolerance, mutual understanding, and a culture of peace. The World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, launched within the framework of the Baku Process in 2008, was also highlighted as an important global platform for advancing dialogue among cultures and civilizations.

#Azerbaijan delivered a joint statement on behalf of the cross-regional group of 19 states (Albania, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cambodia, Kyrgyz Republic, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Mexico, Oman, Pakistan, Panama, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Türkiye, Vietnam and Azerbaijan) during the general debate of the 19th session of the Conference of State Parties (#COSP19) to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (#CRPD). The joint statement underscored that around 15% of the world's population lives with disabilities and stressed the need to ensure CRPD’s human rights protection for persons with disabilities in all circumstances, including those in conflict and post-conflict settings affected by mines, explosive remnants of war (ERW) and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The participating states called for accelerated international support to advance disability prevention in conflict and post-conflict settings, particularly through the establishment, development and effective functioning of national mine-action capacities. They also emphasized the need to strengthen national capacities for emergency and continuing medical care, physical rehabilitation and prosthetics, education and economic reintegration for all persons with disabilities.

The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the United Nations, with the co-sponsorship of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, organized a side event titled “Social Services as a Pathway to the Realization of Human Rights of Mine Victims under the CRPD” on 9 June 2026, on the margins of the nineteenth session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (COSP19). A key message emerging from the discussion was that social services are not merely complementary to victim assistance; they are among the most effective means of translating the principles of the CRPD into tangible improvements in people’s lives. Rehabilitation services, assistive technologies, psychosocial support, inclusive education, vocational training, employment opportunities, community-based services, and adequate social protection all play a vital role in enabling survivors to move beyond immediate recovery toward meaningful participation and inclusion in society. The discussion also underscored the importance of strengthening partnerships among Member States, United Nations entities, mine action actors, donors, development partners, civil society, academia, and organizations of persons with disabilities. The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the UN, in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), organized an event to commemorate World Environment Day on 5 June at United Nations Headquarters in New York. Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972, World Environment Day has grown into one of the world's largest platforms for environmental awareness and action. This year's observance highlighted the urgent need for climate action. Moderated by Mr. Jamil Ahmad, Director of Intergovernmental Affairs at UNEP, the panel featured remarks by Amb. Tofig F. Musayev, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the United Nations; Ms. Ligia Noronha, Assistant Secretary-General for Environmental Policy Coordination and Head of the UNEP New York Office; and Ms. Ayisha Siddiqa, Youth Representative. As the global host of World Environment Day 2026, Azerbaijan underscored the urgency of addressing climate change and the importance of translating commitments into tangible actions that strengthen resilience, advance sustainable development, and accelerate the transition to a greener and more sustainable future. The International Bazaar is a longstanding tradition that celebrates the rich cultural diversity of the UN community while raising funds for humanitarian causes around the world. This year’s proceeds will support the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and efforts to advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

A reception marking the Independence Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan was held at United Nations Headquarters in New York on 28 May 2026. The event was attended by H.E. Mr. Courtenay Rattray, Chef de Cabinet to the United Nations Secretary-General, who delivered remarks on the occasion. He extended his heartfelt congratulations to the people of Azerbaijan and emphasized that “Azerbaijan’s identity has been shaped at the crossroads of continents and civilizations — where ideas, cultures and traditions have flowed and intertwined over centuries.” Permanent Representatives, diplomats, and other senior UN officials also joined the celebration. Guests enjoyed Azerbaijani national cuisine and a musical performance. Addressing the guests, the Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan, Amb. Tofig Musayev, highlighted the enduring legacy of the ADR and underscored Azerbaijan’s active contributions across the key pillars of the United Nations — from advancing the Sustainable Development Goals and promoting human rights to supporting international peace and security.
