This bill would extend statutes of limitations for ex-patients to sue mental health professionals for "conversion therapy." Do we support conversion therapy? Of course not. SB 934 is a response to the Supreme Court's Chiles decision several months ago. It is also a trojan horse. It defines any exploration of the root causes for a transgender identity as conversion therapy. Wherever states adopt laws like California's, patients cannot find therapists who will discuss the reasons behind a gender identity or comorbidities. These laws enshrine the affirmation only model. California legislators know this. They just won't admit it.
