A lot of my favourite frameworks come from

It's all about increasing your surface area for luck and serendipity. He talks about the various different kinds of luck that exist out there and how some people just seem to "get lucky" a lot with great opportunities. Over the last 6 months or so I feel like I've gotten a lot of lucky bounces with Big 4 Transparency, but there is a secret to it all.
It's all about increasing your surface area for luck and serendipity to find you. This kind of luck relies on you showing up consistently, tapping your network, putting things out into the universe, and making it clear to the world what your objectives are. When you're doing all of this, and you keep doing it for long enough, people know what you're all about and you pop up in their minds a lot when the right opportunities come up.
Here's an example of how people following me here might action this:
I keep seeing people posting on Reddit asking if they should post on Linkedin about being laid off, stating things like "my network isn't even that big anyways, and it's kind of embarrassing to admit in public". That's the type of thinking that will keep your surface area for luck really small.
And that's a mistake.
First of all there's no shame in having been caught on the wrong side of a numbers game - excellent performers are let go all the time.
Second, everything you do, even if it's small will reach people who themselves have their own networks, who know people who have their own networks. At this point we're probably talking about thousands of people, someone probably knows about some opportunity that would be PERFECT for you. And every time you put it out there that you're looking for a little luck, a little leg up, it's a reminder for folks to be on the look out, and you might just find that your luck changes.
