The AIDS Memorial is an incredible monument in the heart of Birmingham and I couldn’t be more grateful to those who conceived the idea and ensure that we don’t forget the devastation of HIV and AIDS in the city and around the world.
I am a Black African Nigerian British Gay Priest living with HIV for the past 20 years. Visiting and paying my respect was a privilege.
We are reminded daily of the impact of HIV stigmatisation in the world. We are concerned about the alarming increase of HIV Infections around the world. This AIDS memorial serve to remind us that HIV is not over as long as people are afraid to test for the virus. It is not over where people are shamed, in denial and fear of discrimination.
We have the good news, PrEP an HIV prevention treatment to prevent HIV and for those living with HIV on effective medication they can no longer pass it on.
We celebrate U=U, meaning Undetectable equals untransmittable, with the ability to live a long and fruitful life.
