What happened in Idiroko reflects more than a routine interception, it tells a deeper story of trust in security and the quiet weight of vigilance. A 28-seater Toyota Coaster bus is not a small or hidden object. It is large, visible, and difficult to move unnoticed. Yet, the suspects allegedly still attempted to steal it and advance out through the boarder, believing the opportunity outweighed the risk. From the moment intelligence was received, operatives of the Ogun State Police Command responded swiftly. The response was calm but firm, coordinated yet decisive, closing every gap the suspects hoped to exploit. In a decisive move, the vehicle was immobilised and the attempt brought to a halt before it could succeed. The incident is a reminder that while criminal intent may be bold, timely intelligence and swift policing remain stronger.
PRESS RELEASE OGUN POLICE DEMOBILISE STOLEN COMPANY 28-SEATER TOYOTA COASTER BUS, FOIL CROSS-BORDER SMUGGLING PLOT, ARREST COMPANY DRIVER AND HIS GUARANTOR Operatives attached to Idiroko Division of the Ogun State Police Command, led by CSP Adejuwon Ariyo, the Divisional Police Officer, have foiled a cross-border vehicle trafficking attempt and arrested two suspects, Seun Lawal ‘M’, aged 46 years, and Ademola Oriyomi ‘M’, aged 38 years, over a conspiracy involving a company driver and his guarantor to smuggle a 28-seater Toyota Coaster bus, earlier declared stolen from Lagos, into the Benin Republic for illegal disposal. The operation was based on credible intelligence received at about 11:00 p.m. on June 12, 2026, indicating that the suspects had positioned the said vehicle at Babaloke area of Idiroko and were preparing to move it across the international border under false pretence. Acting swiftly on the information, CSP Adejuwon Ariyo mobilised and led a surveillance team to the location, where operatives intercepted the suspects in the course of executing the cross-border movement. In a decisive tactical response, the operatives demobilised the vehicle by shooting one of its tyres, effectively immobilising it and preventing its escape across the border. The prompt intervention led to the arrest of the two suspects and the recovery of the stolen 28-seater Toyota Coaster bus at the scene. Preliminary investigation revealed that Seun Lawal, a driver, conspired with Ademola Oriyomi, his guarantor, to steal and sell the vehicle in the Benin Republic. The suspects admitted that the proceeds were intended to facilitate their relocation after the illegal transaction. The suspects are currently in custody while investigation continues to uncover possible links to broader cross-border vehicle theft syndicates. The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, commends the professionalism, vigilance, and tactical precision of CSP Adejuwon Ariyo and the operatives of Idiroko Division, whose intelligence-led response ensured the interception, demobilisation, and recovery of the stolen vehicle. The CP reiterates the Command’s unwavering commitment to proactive policing, strengthened border security operations, and sustained efforts aimed at denying criminal elements freedom of action within Ogun State and its border corridors. Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements to security agencies. PRESS RELEASE OGUN POLICE DETECTIVES UNCOVER TRANSNATIONAL FAKE KIDNAPPING SYNDICATE, ARREST EIGHT FOREIGN NATIONALS OVER STAGED ABDUCTION AND RANSOM FRAUD Detectives attached to Ifo Division of the Ogun State Police Command, led by CSP Olabisi Kamorudeen, the Divisional Police Officer have uncovered a transnational criminal syndicate involved in a carefully coordinated fake kidnapping scheme designed to extort ransom from unsuspecting families abroad. The operation led to the arrest of eight foreign nationals, namely Zakaria Zawadogo ‘M’ aged 34yrs, Burkina Faso; Cheik El-Mehdi ‘M’ aged 23yrs, Mauritania; Suren Neta ‘F’ aged 25yrs, Ivory Coast; Koffi Breno ‘M’ aged 36yrs, Ivory Coast; Gondo Treso ‘M’ aged 32yrs, Ivory Coast; Kunuji Ezekiel ‘M’ aged 27yrs, Republic of Benin; Kougasi John ‘M’, Ivory Coast; and Hemue Blinsi ‘M’ aged 30yrs, Côte d’Ivoire. The suspects were arrested during an intelligence-led operation in Adiyan Town, Agbado Area of Ogun State following credible intelligence and sustained surveillance into a reported kidnapping incident that was later uncovered to be a staged abduction. The breakthrough followed a report received on June 6, 2026, from a concerned informant, who alerted the Police that a 23-year-old Mauritanian national, Cheik El-Mehdi, had contacted his family abroad in May 2026 claiming he had been kidnapped in Nigeria and demanding ransom for his release. Shortly after, another suspect, Zakaria Zawadogo, reinforced the demand with threats that the victim would be killed if the ransom was not paid. Upon receipt of the complaint, detectives of Ifo Division immediately activated intelligence-driven investigation. This swift response proved decisive in uncovering the location of the suspects and preventing what could have resulted in a successful cross-border financial crime. The technical intelligence report revealed that the suspects were operating from a hideout in Adiyan Town, Agbado Area of Ogun State. Acting on this intelligence, operatives were swiftly mobilized to the location where Zakaria Zawadogo was arrested. He subsequently led detectives to the syndicate’s hideout, resulting in the arrest of Cheik El-Mehdi, Suren Neta, and five other foreign nationals. All suspects were taken into custody, while the premises were secured and thoroughly searched in line with due process. Preliminary findings revealed that the operation was a coordinated criminal enterprise involving the deliberate staging of a kidnapping scenario to defraud the victim’s family. It was further established that Suren Neta lured Cheik El-Mehdi into Nigeria, while Zakaria Zawadogo coordinated the ransom demands and issued threats to compel payment. The purported victim was also found to have actively participated in the orchestration of the fake abduction. The principal suspects, Zakaria Zawadogo, Cheik El-Mehdi, and Suren Neta, have all confessed to their involvement in the conspiracy, while further investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of the syndicate’s operations and possible links to other transnational criminal networks. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet and further investigation. The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, commends the professionalism, discipline, and swift response of the detectives under CSP Olabisi Kamorudeen, whose intelligence-led action exposed and dismantled the criminal scheme. The CP notes that the case highlights the increasing sophistication of transnational criminal activities and reaffirms the Command’s commitment to proactive policing, intelligence gathering, and sustained operations against organized crime. He reassures members of the public that Ogun State remains a hostile environment for criminal elements and that the Command will continue to strengthen internal and cross-border collaboration to ensure public safety.

PRESS RELEASE OGUN POLICE COMMAND COMMENCES ENFORCEMENT AGAINST COVERED, UNAUTHORISED, AND VEHICLES WITHOUT REGISTRATION NUMBER PLATES The Ogun State Police Command has commenced statewide enforcement against vehicles operating with covered, obscured, defaced, concealed, unauthorised, or no registration number plates, in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police. The exercise is aimed at strengthening security, enhancing public safety, and denying criminal elements the anonymity often exploited in the commission of crimes. The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, has directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Team Commanders to impound offending vehicles and carry out thorough investigations in accordance with extant laws. The enforcement also covers vehicles displaying fake, improperly issued, altered, or otherwise unauthorised registration number plates. The Ogun State Police Command wishes to advise motorists, transport operators, fleet owners, and members of the public to ensure that their vehicles carry valid, duly issued, and clearly visible registration number plates at all times. This exercise is not intended to inconvenience law-abiding citizens but to enhance the capacity of law enforcement agencies to identify vehicles, investigate crimes, track criminal suspects, and strengthen the overall security architecture of Ogun State. The Command remains committed to protecting lives and property and urges residents to comply with this directive while continuing to support the Police with credible and timely information. When Trust Is Betrayed How well do we truly know the people we entrust with access, responsibility, and confidence? An interpreter and driver, professions built on trust and responsibility, now stand at the centre of an alleged kidnapping conspiracy. The case underscores the need for employers and individuals to exercise due diligence in recruitment and the level of access granted to employees. More importantly, it reinforces that prevention is better than cure. Timely and credible intelligence enabled the Police to foil the plot before lives were endangered. Security is a shared responsibility, and every piece of useful information volunteered by members of the public is a blow against crime and criminality. The information you share today may prevent the crime of tomorrow.
PRESS RELEASE OGUN POLICE FOIL PLANNED CONSPIRACY TO KIDNAP CHINESE NATIONAL, ARREST TWO CO-CONSPIRATORS OVER ₦50 MILLION RANSOM PLOT, ON THE TRAIL OF ONE FLEEING ACCOMPLICE Operatives of the Obalende Division of the Ogun State Police Command have successfully foiled a well-coordinated conspiracy to kidnap a Chinese national and arrested two principal suspects, Chinedu Onwuemena ‘M’, aged 41 years, and Jimoh Ojo ‘M’, aged 37 years, in connection with a planned ₦50,000,000 ransom demand. The suspects were arrested on June 9, 2026, at about 5:30 p.m., following credible and actionable intelligence received by the Divisional Police Officer indicating an imminent kidnapping plot along the Ijebu-Ode/Odogbolu Expressway corridor. Acting on the intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer immediately mobilised operatives of the Division, including the Surveillance Team, to the identified axis, where the suspects were promptly intercepted and arrested, thereby thwarting the execution of the planned crime. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects had jointly conspired to abduct a Chinese national and extort a ransom of ₦50,000,000. Further findings showed that Chinedu Onwuemena, who worked within the company environment as an interpreter and driver, allegedly exploited his position to facilitate the criminal plan. Investigations further established that the arrested suspects did not act alone but in concert with another accomplice who is currently at large. Efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing suspect, while discrete investigations continue to unravel the full extent of the criminal network behind the conspiracy. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for comprehensive and discreet investigation. The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, commends the professionalism, vigilance, and swift response of the operatives of Obalende Division, whose proactive action prevented what could have resulted in a serious kidnapping incident. Vigilance is a virtue, panic is not. The difference between the two is verification. Vigilance pays attention, seeks facts, and responds wisely, while panic rushes to conclusions and spreads fear. In moments of uncertainty, don't be quick to amplify rumours or assumptions. Verify first, act responsibly, and remember that informed caution protects communities far better than unchecked alarm.
