Growing up I would often go spearing fishing. Sometimes I would get distracted by anxiety evoking imaginations. Sometimes imagining a Bull Shark approaching, fading into view from the surrounding vast abyss. Sometimes it would take over to where I wasn’t even focused on what I was there to do. I was there to shoot a fish! To help not worry about the currently nonexistent threats, I developed a saying to help pull me back to the moment and get the job done, “focus on the fish”.
This has been an especially tough year, full of nonstop negative variance. I started letting everything build up into one big anxiety triggering, inner Molotov-cocktail. Once I dissected everything, I realized there were so many concerns and worries that had nothing to do with generating positive EV. More now than ever it is time to take that deep dive and FOCUS ON THE FISH.
