Biodiversity loss in aboveground arthropods is known, but what about belowground ones, e.g. oribatid mites? This study found no linear decline in abundance or diversity. Differences in precipitation and soil properties are more important than forest types.

Large seeds benefit more from litter, small seeds from fertilisation. These effects vary depending on the plant group. Land-use changes affect #biodiversity from the earliest #plant stages.

The study shows that nitrogen fertilization reduces seedling emergence while litter cover boosts it, even combined with fertilization. Fertilization increased seedling height and biomass, and the combination of fertilizer and litter resulted in even stronger responses.
