After attending its inaugural meeting this week, I joined the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Film and Broader Screen. The group, which brings together cross-party MPs, is dedicated to promoting and enhancing the understanding of the British film industry, film culture and the wider moving image in the UK 🎬
This couldn’t have come at a better time as the Blackpool Film Festival kicks off across multiple Blackpool venues this weekend, including at
@_AuntySocial_,
@ShowtownBPL, Backlot Cinema,
@abingdonstudios and
@GrundyBlackpool.
For the past decade
@BPLFilmFest has filled a gap in Blackpool’s film offer, providing room for discussion about films and affordable screenings of diverse cinema – from independent and art house, to shorts, documentary, locally-made and foreign-language productions.
As part of the festival’s commitment to opening up opportunities for local talent, the main programme begins tonight at 6pm, with a Film Maker's mixer at the Backlot, hosted by the
@BFI Network.
Festival organisers are committed to providing opportunities to work with film to local people, combatting Blackpool’s cultural brain drain and providing access to quality opportunities on our doorstep.
