A lot of reasons why SNL using AI for stuff like this sucks, but my main gripe is just that it’s less funny! The intentionally kind of janky photoshops are part of the joke and beat the weird smooth AI aesthetic.

It's literally just one single reason: because it's cheaper. That's the reason capitalism does ANYTHING. It's not some big philosophical question. Color requires dyes & paints, it fades & requires uptake, it takes more design time (good color theory isn't cheap)
