Did you know that fishways can act as ecological traps? Video of 45 instances of juvenile #NorthernPike exiting a fishway to get eaten by adults waiting upstream. Bearhole fishway, City of Dawson Creek. Camera: BRAVO M2 fish monitoring system.
Introducing the Biotactic Research Artificial Intelligence Network (BRAIN). In use since 2021 the BRAIN accurately counts fish, differentiates upstream/downstream movement and true/false passage. Near real time or post collection processing. Info at biotactic.com/ai-data-servic…#ai
Here's a short clip of a #smallmouthbass predating a cyprinid inside the Mannheim weir fishway on the Grand River. Recorded with a BRAVO fish monitoring system. You never know what you'll find!
Our BRAVO #underwater#fish monitoring system in the #GrandRiver is back online! Watch the 24/7 live feed for free here: biotactic.com/BRAVO-Node-1/
Already recorded- mass movement of cyprinids/suckers and rock bass spawning right in front of the camera! Check it out!
New paper now out in Environmental Biology of Fishes- "The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on a recreational rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fishery"

While we mainly work with fish, we occasionally get the opportunity to do some fun things with freshwater mussels including monitoring fish-mussel interactions and SAR relocations. Can't wait to do more! #WorldBivalveDay

Every fall Biotactic conducts redd counts in the Saugeen River and its tributaries to monitor #ChinookSalmon spawning. Upstream of the removed Truax Dam counts are performed with a drone. How many fish and redds do you count in this video? #fieldworkyoutu.be/4_4ELODl9js
Year 2 post #damremoval biomass monitoring complete! Staff just returned from 4 weeks of sampling across the #Saugeen River watershed. 70 sites electrofished and thousands of fish weighed and measured. Can't wait to analyze the data! #fieldwork

Our paper "Site fidelity and seasonal habitat preferences of largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) in a temperate regulated reservoir" is now available Online First in Hydrobiologia! #largemouthbass#ecologylink.springer.com/article/10…
We radiotagged another 50 #RainbowTrout this weekend. 300 have now been tagged since 2018 and their movement is tracked year-round to monitor the effects of #dams and a #damremoval on passage throughout the #Saugeen River watershed. Check out the process- condensed to 1.5mins!
The #fish monitoring camera in the #Thornbury fish ladder is now LIVE! Watch the 24/7 streaming live feed on our website for free here: biotactic.com/bravo-node-10/
Fish counts will be updated as they come in!
Spring #fieldwork season has definitely arrived in full force this week. Love being able to spend days back outside collecting really interesting data for some amazing projects!
Monday- a great tracking flight with @FlyOwenSound. Tuesday- installed a new fixed #telemetry receiver station monitoring #fishpassage at a key #dam and #fishway, bringing our total to 6 across the river
Thursday- stay tuned for an exciting announcement!
