Principal Secretary for Forestry Mr.
@GMugambi_CBS today held discussions with the Chairman of the GRO Foundation, Mr. Paul Mukalazi Flynn, during a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening collaboration in the implementation of the Government’s 15 Billion Trees Programme by 2032.
The discussions focused on the Foundation’s plans to support large scale tree growing, landscape restoration and community based agroforestry initiatives, all aligned with the national target of restoring ecosystems and increasing tree cover across the country.
The Principal Secretary commended the ideas presented, noting that they are consistent with Kenya’s long term forest restoration agenda. He emphasized the need for structured partnerships that enhance seedling production, improve tree survival rates, and promote sustainable land restoration outcomes under the 15 Billion Trees by 2032 initiative.
He further briefed the delegation on the national agroforestry strategy, underscoring its role in integrating trees into agricultural systems to improve livelihoods, strengthen climate resilience and support food security.
Also in attendance were the Secretary for Forest Development, Mr. George Tarus, Senior Scientist Dr. Margaret Kaigongi and other representatives from the GRO Foundation.
