"What they said didn't really make sense," she said, "but they fund our research. So they can't be that bad." Her thoughts - and in part those of her students - were constrained by the cognitive dissonance generated by dependence on fossil funding.

After the huge win at the European Investment Bank, the Financial Times sets our goal as we take on the rest of the banks: "If financial support for oil and gas ever faltered, it would spell a far more decisive climate shift than anything seen to date." ft.com/content/c97f8e44-04ad…

This is what climate change looks like. The GOP like to mock scientific warnings about climate change as exaggeration. But just look around: it’s already starting. We have 10 years to cut carbon emissions in half. If we don’t, scenes like this can get much worse. #GreenNewDeal

I am confident that we can build an ecological civilization that is much better for all than the destructive capitalism we currently have. Out of the best bits of high tech, grandparent & indigenous ways, and completely new stuff. But first we need to get past the bottleneck.

#2, was very happy that the New Yorker published my summer's work today; I think, perhaps conceitedly, that it's the most useful thing I've written in a long while, and makes me feel like we have some new lines on the roadmap of the movement going forward newyorker.com/news/daily-com…

Wall Street is lobbying to stop this bill. Public funds should be used to finance community needs, NOT bail out private banks. Don’t let Big Banks siphon off the public coffers. Call your Senators NOW & ask: do you stand with the People or with Wall Street? Vote yes on #AB857

Rapid deployment of clean energy is ultimately deflationary, wiping out a huge tranche of demand and associated industrialism of fossil fuel supply chains. And Trump is intuitively Soviet, and wants the high structural costs associated with autarky. And there you have it.

For decades, policies have prioritized coal corporations over coal workers. No more. The best way to uplift coal communities is to center them in a #GreenNewDeal - by fully funding their pensions & investing in a #JustTransition. theguardian.com/environment/… bit.ly/2MUw1tv
