Very proud of the team for building this feature, excited to see it ship. It's a great balance of privacy and safety and has been a lot of fun to engineer. Don't be toxic 😅 dev.epicgames.com/en-US/news…

Well that's a relief... 🙄
JUST IN: UK Government clarifies adults will still be able to use social media by verifying their identities with digital IDs, facial recognition, passports and credit cards.

Gemini is such an idiot. Me: Is X an okay audiobook to listen to on a road trip with my son? G: Depending on age, no. There's profanity and explicit sex jokes throughout. Me: Thanks, he's 12. Good info. G: CONTENT SAFETY VIOLATION!!!

The book I had been considering was "Dungeon Crawler Carl" - I'd heard it was good, but didn't know any details about it. Gemini definitely could have been smarter about the reply. My guess is anything with U13 sexual content = instant violation. Even if saying not to do it.

It explicitly gave me age ranges, so I didn't realize it was going to get upset about that.

Me, explaining Byzantine diplomacy and the art of playing enemies against each other to my son as he studies for history class. Son: So it's like in Fortnite when you see two guys shooting each other, and you third party and 200 pump them in the head? Ugh... yeah, okay. Like that.

Son: How do you know my hip isn't broken? Me: You'd be screaming and pain and couldn't walk. Son: That's what you told me about my wrist, but it /was/ broken. Okay, valid point, but his hip isn't broken...

I'm sure the Forza Horizon 6 team did a great job on the soundtrack, but if I'm racing around Japan, the ONLY thing I want to be blasting is the Initial D soundtrack.

Me: (benches 225 for the first time, insanely happy with myself) Wife: "Neat. Is that something people who go to the gym regularly would think is a big deal?" She's my biggest fan, but sometimes comes in out of nowhere with an incrediblely sick burn. 😅

Replying to @ImposeCost
I'm not saying we need to nuke it and start over with a fresh set of assumptions, but there's a lot of blind faith given to open source (npm, extension marketplaces, etc) that is built on very shaky foundations. I think it's obvious that the risk calculus has changed since they were first built, but protections haven't.

I endorse the book, provided you like darker fantasy. Here's the pitch. A bride and her entire village are murdered on her wedding day by an evil noblewoman who comes to steal her family's heirloom sword. Bride comes back to life. She has seven days to cross the country and reclaim her sword or she dies forever. If that pitch is at ALL appealing, you'll probably like this book. Blake is a guy that SHOULD be trad published. He writes stuff the mass market for this kind of fantasy would love, but he won't get that chance because we live in a crazy world. Which means YOU should give him a shot. He's putting some chapters of the first book up for free. Nothing to lose.
If you’ve found me on Twitter and haven’t yet read my first book, I’ve started posting chapters from Deathbringer over on Royal Road for free. You can see all posted chapters here: royalroad.com/fiction/165423… Inga Alenir is a Swordbearer. She is the latest in a long line of women to inherit a magical weapon called Deathbringer. She's also dead, murdered on her wedding day by the ruthless and covetous noblewoman Yenda Avard, who steals the sword after killing Inga and her entire family. And yet, some secrets won't stay buried. Deathbringer has a will and a consciousness of its own, and even has the power to raise Inga from the dead for a short time. It warns her that she has one week to find and retrieve the sword before death reclaims her—permanently. With each day bringing her doom and final demise ever closer, Inga will have to see just how far she's willing to go to achieve her vengeance. DEATHBRINGER is set in the world of Agareth where a scorned, young widow fights back against the powerful elites that wronged her, and begins a journey that might turn the entire world against her.

Sometimes I accidentally hurt myself. Son: "What do you think about X soccer player?" Me: "Isn't he really old? Way past his prime, and not worth the money." Son: "Yeah, you're right. He's 36. Way too old to be good any more." Me, realizing that I'm in my 40s: Oof.

My wife has this recipe she printed out and keeps in our kitchen - it's really tasty. But this morning, pre-coffee, the only thing that went through my mind when I saw it was trying to figure out what word got censored here. Eventually, I realized it's a 5* recipe.

Seeing the Blue Angels is always special. Can't remember the last time I went to an air show, but glad I made it to Cherry Point this time around.

Daughter: Why don't you ever come in and read to my class at lunch? Me: Because I tend to be very busy during the day and have meetings and such then. Daughter: Well, don't they ever give you a day off in the middle of the week because you work hard? Not quite how jobs work 😅

I, once or twice a semester, will block my calendar over lunch and make an appearance for some school event. But it's definitely a special occasion kind of thing, not a regular occurrence.

My kids' elementary and middle schools use it, too. I'm thinking I may not need to check their homework tonight...

This is the correct reason. The F-14 Tomcat is just unquestionably one of the coolest planes the world has ever seen, and ensuring that there's at least one still flying around is an inspiration to future generations.
The point would be that it would be UNBELIEVABLY COOL.
