Dear
@officialnyscng,
This is a heartfelt request for better planning and empathy in your operations. Call-up letters for Batch A Stream 1 were sent out just a day and a half before resumption, at 4 or 5 a.m., less than 48 hours before corps members are expected to report to camp on the 23rd.
This is more than just poor planning; it is also extremely inconsiderate.
Many of these prospective corps members are resuming in zones far away from their zone. Many are posted throughout the country, from one end to the other. Flights to some of these places, if available, are limited and expensive. My sibling's flight to another state in another zone was canceled barely 4 hours before the flight time, forcing him to book another flight, with no refund in sight for the first. Consider if no flight was available: should he risk a long road trip through hazardous terrain?
Not every family has the resources to make such last-minute, expensive changes. Some parents must go to extraordinary lengths to provide for their children through this national service. What about those who cannot afford two plane tickets or must travel by road? What about those who require time to plan, borrow, or even fundraise?
You ask for service and sacrifice; the least you can do is reciprocate with consideration. It is not unreasonable to expect at least one week's notice. These young Nigerians are entitled to dignity and proper communication.
Let us strive to do better.
