To those who say politics doesn't matter, or who think that it doesn't matter who you vote for, 'everyone's the same', watch this video of Gordon Brown list the last Labour government's achievements. Labour in power transforms the lives of those most in need.

We cannot separate the far-right violence on our streets from the online world, in which extremist and hateful content is allowed to thrive unchecked and misinformation thrives. It's about time social media sites were treated as publishers and held to account.

Politicians and public figures need to do much more than say “not in our name”. They must take some of the blame for creating a toxic discourse around immigration which “others” asylum seekers and migrants. Mis-and disinformation about immigration take root in certain communities because they are constantly told by politicians and commentators that asylum seekers are being given priority access to already chronically underfunded public services. A constant refrain among politicians is that these are “legitimate concerns”, even when there is often very little evidence to support many of these claims. This mainstreaming of far-right views on immigration is reinforced by media coverage that frequently fails to factcheck false claims about issues such as the benefits asylum seekers are entitled to claim. In this context it is perhaps unsurprising that immigration features so prominently in the issues that are of most concern to citizens. newstatesman.com/politics/no…

When racist thugs are burning down houses and kicking out families for being black and brown, they’re not expressing ‘legitimate concerns’ or ‘left behind’ they’re racist thugs that need to be condemned as such.

The shameful racist violence and growing intolerance we're seeing in our country didn't just occur in a vacuum. It's occurred because of certain politicians whipping up hatred against minorities, aided and abetted by social media companies that thrive off of extremism.

I have spoken on Times Radio about importance of the Public Sector Equality Duty which acts as a shield against discrimination. We need to protect not scrap this duty and apply it equitably and effectively. I am disappointed that some politicians want to take us back decades.

If we are to secure safety in a fairer Bedfordshire we have to promote an agenda based on a triangle of social justice, criminal justice and human rights. These must be underpinned by social cohesion, democratic governance and effective use of resources. biggleswadetoday.co.uk/your-…

I was born and raised here. Countless brave Sikh soldiers died for Britain, proudly wearing their turban and kirpan. Thankfully, Rupert and Restore don't get to decide what is British. Beware … today they’re coming for me, but tomorrow it could be you!
A Labour MP, Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi, has attacked Restore Britain in Parliament for our push to get the Kirpan banned in public spaces. Under a Restore Britain Government, all will be equal. Un-British religious practices will not be tolerated or accepted. Enough is enough.

RT @MayorofLondon: Devastated to hear the news of the senseless Islamophobic murders at the Islamic Center of San Diego. Places of worship…

While some commentators and journalists continue to play semantics and ask whether 'Islamophobia exists', the far-right rally on the weekend, in which Islamophobic slogans were chanted and Muslims vilified, shows how much work needs to be done to rid society of this hatred.

Really enjoyed the @progbrit Conference this year, where I had the privilege of chairing a panel session on how to improve community cohesion joined by brilliant Labour colleagues including @Uma_Kumaran and @shah_arooj.

If we’re to improve community cohesion then politicians from all sides of the political spectrum must lead by eg. A powerful quote I heard today: “We need to listen to understand not just listen so that we can respond”
