I don't remember when the bluebacks were actually introduced, but catching a 4 lber and 8 lb striper in the dead middle of a 47 degree pocket in 7 feet of water in February will make you think about some things.
Not sure if it's understood why the bluebacks do that or not but it will derail your prespawn patterns, especially down the lake in the clearer, deeper water.
Question: Will bass get shallow in the wintertime?
Answer: Yes, actually, they will.
In a season known for the deepest fish all year, sometimes 50 feet in some clear lakes, there are still opportunities to catch shallow fish in the winter.

Channel swing banks, rip rap, bluff banks, and other rocky substrate adjacent to deep water will attract fish as it warms in the sunlight. The bass will rise to it, and you can get on a surprisingly shallow winter crankbait bite.
Thread on late summer #bassfishing
It's a tough time of year in a lot of places, particularly in the south. Fishing pressure has worn on the deep schools of bass, water quality often declines, and the bite slows.
Stay confident and understand how the process changes, and you can still put big bags in the boat.
This was late August. Caught 7 total fish. Had 24 lbs. Went 3 hours without a bite during the day and only caught multiple fish off one spot.
Significant changes in depth are prime areas to find summer bass. Areas where contour come together define these areas on your chart. Below are 2 points and a road bed shown on Navionics.
