The #BattleofMons took place in August 1914. The following month, #ArthurMachen wrote The Bowmen story in which phantom bowmen from #Agincourt came to the aid of the British. So began the #AngelofMons myth. This waltz was published in 1916
Last night I went to a lecture on the impact of the Hampton Court Conference of 1604. The lecturer brought along several contemporary documents including the Basilikon Doron of 1603. The original owner provided a brief index which may interest @indexers
Something for next year's diary @indexers - yes really! Oxford Dictionary of Biography (ODNB) provides a daily Life of the Day online which is sent free to subscribers. G Norman Knight, our founder, will be featured on 28 March 2025.

It is 40yrs since my first index (860pp) was published & reviewed in TLS. I joined @indexers, became programme organiser, newsletter editor, vice chair & helped organise conferences. c3,000 indexes later, thank you @indexers for a fantastic indexing life!
PS. Janet Hogarth Courtney's brother was David Hogarth, archaeologist and friend of T.E. Lawrence. He was also keeper of the @AshmoleanMuseum in succession to Arthur Evans. David also knew Gertrude Bell, a close friend of Janet's.
Next year it will be 70 years since one of the great, forgotten @indexers died. Her name? Janet Hogarth Courtney (1865-1954), chief indexer of the 11th edition of @Britannica cross-referencing 30,000pp in less than 6 months, a half a million separate entries.
