Please note that any changes announced by @BorisJohnson this afternoon apply to England only - decisions on Covid rules for Wales are made in Wales. We are reviewing Covid regulations and will set out any changes to the existing restrictions on Wednesday.

There were footprints either side of Helvellyn's Trig point far too close to the edge. Second picture shows the corniced drop that they were walking on or near. Please advise walkers less experienced than yourselves what they are walking on & to keep well back from the edge. Jon

On Helvellyn's summit plateau between Swirral Edge's exit & the Trig point looking towards the Trig point showing the difference just 10m makes. Trig point just visible in first photo disappeared in second. The snow here on the plateau was 50cm deep & up to 90cm. Jon

From your kind comments, it's clear that many people are following us to get their "Lakeland fix" whilst unable to visit. If it makes you feel any better...you didn't miss much today! This is the desolate view from the windblown summit of Great Rigg (766m) looking N. Jon

The ridge from Whiteside to Hopegill Head today. A bit less snow than many eastern fells, but with the ground well frozen conditions remain challenging across the national park. Wes #summitsafely #beadventuresmart

Vehicle parked on a clearway on Pen-y-Pass #Llanberis. On a bend. In the snow. Accident waiting to happen The owners (who had broken #Covid19 rules & travelled here from outside the area to walk up Snowdon) now have to pay to have their vehicle released #StayHome #KeepWalesSafe

A few people spotted today wearing jeans or tracksuit bottoms and trainers and carrying nothing additional. When Cotton or Denim gets wet and combined with -6°C windchill, at best it’s going to be very uncomfortable. At worst it’s a recipe for hypothermia. Wes #beadventuresmart

The #Helvellyn Edges can now be climbed without setting foot on snow. Careful route choice & full winter clothing still recommended for anyone who wants to enjoy this classic hill day #summitsafely Zac

Proof (if it's needed) how conditions can rapidly change in the hills. These 2 pics both taken a few minutes apart when on Striding Edge and looking towards the summit. The crest of Striding Edge was mainly a thin layer of compacted snow.

What a fantastic day for our first #winterskills course of the season. We often hear clients say “I wouldn’t have done that on my own”, and it’s always a pleasure to help people achieve their goals and to impart skills and knowledge along the way.

Lots of people out walking and skiing today and who can blame them! Snow cover is very lean in places so care and good judgement is required to protect yourself, others and of course this amazing environment. #summitsafely #beadventuresmart

Here’s the radar picture this morning. Rain, snow and sleet across a large area in Scotland. A last minute Met Office warning has been issued for the south east, Wintry in parts of Kent. This may spread northwards giving some snow over the Wealds and Downs of SE England #uksnow
