It’s a great time of year to ask yourself “when was the last time the incubator intake vent was cleaned?” (if you have to ask then it’s time to clean it)

Experimenting with a different kind of cloning in the lab....plants!! We attempted to propagate a cape sundew through cuttings. First, we cut leaves off this mother plant (shown here flowering)...

PS. Although the ad describes an anti-fungal development project, this is still the correct link to apply!! Cell culture and animal handling experience preferred but not required.

In a monumental effort, my research assistant completed a primary screen of 150,000 compounds!! There’s still a LOT of work to be done but in an academic setting with limited automation, this is quite the feat!!!

There is still a lot of work to do on this compound (and the many others we have identified in our screen which is up to ~1000K now!!) but we are excited to have some potential candidates to work with moving forward!

Why shouldn't we rely on a limited number of reference strains to study fungal pathogens? My thoughts in this month's @NatureRevMicro Journal Club, featuring work by @caitlinkowa @BeattieLab @cramer_lab.
Breaking the mould: rethinking ‘wild type’ in fungal pathogens In this Journal Club, Amelia Barber discusses a study revealing intraspecies heterogeneity in Aspergillus fumigatus, prompting us to re-evaluate the notion of ‘reference’ strains. nature.com/articles/s41579-0…

Don't forgot, editing is part of writing. Reading is part of writing. Lying facedown on the floor, worrying those around you, is part of writing.

Returning to the office after a snow day to emails I sent to myself from home with ideas to follow up on...is this PI life?
