Think the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the world's greatest football spectacle? ⚽ The ancient Maya might have had something to say about that. Want to meet some of their players? The exhibition "Maize, Gold, Jaguar: A Grand Exhibition of Maya and Andean Civilizations" is now on display at the Capital Museum through October 18, 2026. Among the highlights are ceramic artifacts depicting Maya ballplayers wearing distinctive U-shaped waist protectors. Since the ball was not meant to be touched by hand, players relied on their hips, elbows, and knees to keep it in play, creating a game that looked very different from the football matches fans will see at the #2026FIFAWorldCup. #ArtsyBeijing #WorldCup #Maya #football

Have you been to the Yongding River recently? This early summer, the river is showing off a refreshed look. As restoration projects near completion in areas such as Mencheng Lake and Lianshi Lake, cleaner water, greener shorelines, and upgraded flood-control infrastructure are transforming parts of Beijing's riverfront.
