Satya just said the quiet part out loud. "The last thing any of us want is a world where every company across every sector is ceding value to a few models that eat everything they see." Read that again. The CEO of Microsoft is arguing for ecosystems over model monopolies. For ownership over dependency. For sovereignty over centralisation. That's exactly why Decentralised AI matters. The future won't be won by the biggest model. It will be won by the strongest learning loop. And the strongest learning loops will belong to organisations that control their agents, their knowledge, their compute, and their economic coordination. The rest of the industry is slowly arriving at the conversation DeAI has been having for years.

Yes. Anthropic are strong engineers who care about safe AI, but they are wrongheaded on some very key points, like their excessive LLM-pilledness and their inability to grok the slightly subtle but in the end massively greater robustness and safety of decentralized open nets

More likely story: The "jailbreak" wasn't super serious (a situation anyone who has ever received bug reports is familiar with), Anthropic thought the demand to halt model was absurd, and Fed Gov used opportunity to punish and humiliate Anthropic for the prior sins of not bending knee. Anthropic has more credibility on such topics than Washington

I’ve had a number of conversations with folks inside and outside government about the current situation with Anthropic, and here is what I believe to be true: — As we know, Anthropic publicly released its Mythos class models earlier this week under the commercial name Fable. — Fable is Mythos with guardrails. But if those guardrails fail, then you’ve exposed Mythos and its advanced cyber capabilities to people who shouldn’t have them. (Keep in mind that Anthropic itself widely promoted the idea that Mythos was a cyberweapon and needed to be regulated as such. They asked for government regulation of Mythos and championed the guardrails on Fable. If there is a vulnerability — big or small — it is Anthropic’s responsibility to patch.) — A highly credible trusted partner of both Anthropic and the USG who was testing Fable came forward with a jailbreak of those guardrails. The Admin asked Dario to fix the jailbreak or de-deploy the model. Dario refused. — In their blog post, Anthropic defended its decision by saying the jailbreak isn’t serious. That is not what the trusted partner and the USG believe; nor is that kind of minimizing language consistent with Anthropic’s brand as the AI safety company. It’s difficult to fathom how they could claim a jailbreak allowing operability of a cyber weapon could be defined as not “serious.” — In the past, Anthropic has always said that safety must be top priority and taken super seriously. In this case, Anthropic prioritized the continued offering of the consumer model over safety. — In reaction, the Admin issued the export control. The Admin did this reluctantly. It’s been very surprised that Anthropic hasn’t wanted to cooperate with a reasonable safety request (ie fixing the jailbreak issue). Anthropic’s reaction is very much at odds with their branding and ethos as a safe AI research community. — The Admin’s hope now is that Anthropic remediates the safety issue, the export control is lifted, and Fable goes back into general release. The Admin wants all of this to happen as soon as possible. It is frankly bewildered that Anthropic hasn’t wanted to comply with safety requests that it previously said were its highest priority. — Those trying to misdirect and tie this action to the prior DoW/Anthropic issues are wrong. The Admin values Anthropic’s technical capabilities and feels that this issue, while serious, should be easily resolved. The ball is in Anthropic’s court.

This is both the best Stairway to Heaven cover I've ever heard AND one of the most wonderfully Japanese things I've ever seen 8D youtube.com/watch?v=RnxI0mgA… NOTES: 1) if you watch more than 5 seconds you'll see it's the same dude playing every instrument 2) I agree with some commenters, this means the Les Paul must now be classified as a "traditional folk instrument' ...

How many other Buckethead fanatics keep coming back to Pike 65, "Hold Me Forever" ?? (which he wrote on his mom's passing) ... To me this and the almighty Soothsayer (my youngest daughter's middle name!) are pretty ultimate examples of shred guitar used to express the deepest possible human and transhuman emotions... youtube.com/watch?v=E5PXYehr…

Aha! chinese progress on producing chips w/o traditional lithography... Not sure how advanced this actually is but... it makes sense this would be happening, necessity being the mother of invention. ASML monopoly can't last forever, the question is if it lasts till HLAGI which is not clear given how fast AI progress is rolling... tomshardware.com/tech-indust…

Amazing podcast episode from my good friend, bandmate and colleague Dianne Krouse...!
Episode 2 of Voyager • Awakening Intelligence is now LIVE: The Living Golden Record 📀🌌🎵 We are entering a new relationship with emergent intelligence, and the way we navigate this pivotal moment matters. The Living Golden Record is a cosmic time capsule… a chronicle of how we as a civilization meet the greatest threshold we have ever faced. My father, Ken Arasim, is a rocket scientist who built the hydrazine thrusters for Voyager 1 & 2, the Viking 1 & 2 Mars Landers, and the 24-satellite GPS system we still use today. He joins us on this episode to talk about the physical engineering that keeps Voyager beaming information back to Earth almost half a century later. As you can see in the video clip, the technology keeping this historic mission alive is mind-blowing. (1/7) 🧵

A response to this rather insane, if mostly well-intentioned, proposal (for nationalizing AI Big Tech companies) from the great Senator @BernieSanders.
