Very good piece by @helen_dempster @charleyward23 & @SamHuckstep showing how costly new remittances tax would be for poor countries. Dwarfs the financial hit from aid cuts for many countries.

Is it going to make Guatemala a more or less livable place to take $700 million out of its economy every year? All to give Elon Musk a bigger tax break.

Buried in this story is a line that @marcorubio plans to terminate funding for the @UNFAO which provides the preeminent measure of GLOBAL FOOD PRICES. The Trump admin strategy to bring down the price of food is to just defund the organization that measures food prices?

Sounds very efficient.
After hearing that some orgs are getting reversal notices of program terminations, some are now getting RECALLS of those reversals. One organization got a stop work order, then a waiver, then a termination, then a termination reversal, then a note that the reversal was in error.

There's a coverup happening in the Trump administration. @John_Hudson & @Reinlwapo scoop that the acting USAID Inspector General is hiding a report showing the devastating consequences of Elon Musk's assault on life-saving humanitarian assistance. Even Congress can't access it.

The report says the destruction of USAID is imperiling the ceasefire in Gaza, threatening a catastrophe reminiscent of the haphazard departure from Afghanistan and wasting tens of millions of $ - washingtonpost.com/politics/…

NEWS Major changes coming to federal government, led by Musk's DOGE: - Most significant move to dismiss federal workers now underway. This is the big one. Agencies must submit plans to significantly reduce staff size by March 13 - Social Security Admin under instruction to cut staff in half; GSA says terminations there are imminent - Labor Dept eyes gutting EEOC office by *90%* - Mass lease cancellations of federal buildings underway. 100 IRS leases to be nixed, per records Helps make sense of why Musk and Trump wanted unified front today with Cabinet secretaries

Judge Amir Ali only partially granted the motion to get aid flowing fully, but in the process he thoroughly dismantled the government's case to date. Here are some choice excerpts.
We welcome the ruling calling on the Trump admin allow some USAID projects, incl. lifesaving assistance, to move forward & demand they comply. We look forward to the next step in our own legal challenge against the admin to ensure ALL critical humanitarian programs can resume.

Yes, the govt's argument is the massive disruption to the humanitarian aid system that left food rotting in warehouses, children without life-saving medications, & women with experimental implants in their bodies with no doctors to help remove them amounts to "hiccups".
