These maps don’t field check themselves (thank goodness). We’re gearing up for another season in the field, hoping for good weather and endless backroads!

#OnThisDay in 1911, Colorado National Monument was established. It’s a stunning landscape of cliffs and canyons, easily accessed from Grand Junction. Ever been?
As mapmakers, we love being in geographically significant spots like this. Do you seek out these places, too? Some of them are much more difficult to access than Post, Oregon! Page 63 F12 for anyone following along at home.

Spring is on the way, or maybe it’s already here where you are! Always nice to see wildflowers blooming along the trail. We’d love to hear some of your favorite spots to take in the beauty of the season! 📷: @_chaney in Capitol Reef National Park, Utah

Tough to beat mornings in the field, especially with views like this one from a recent trip in #California.

Who's got a river trip planned for the summer? Anyone snag a permit for the legendary Middle Fork of the Salmon in Idaho?

If you need a reminder for what day it is, this creek in Alaska is here to help.
Who's up for a desert drive to escape the winter snows? Follow the historic Route 66 across the Mojave and you just might be treated to blue skies and warm sunshine like we were while out on a field check one winter.

In the 1800s there was a push to call the Cascades by a different name: the Presidents Range. Names were applied to many of the prominent volcanoes in Oregon and Washington, but only three peaks retain presidential titles today: Jefferson and Washington in OR, and Adams in WA.

A look back at warmer days in the field, taking a break from the driving for a hike in @BryceCanyonNPS.

Mappy Valentine's Day, and sorry about that pun.

Who else is dreaming of winter adventures in the mountains? Crater Lake is an awesome winter destination, and its right in our backyard here in Oregon where we make our maps. 📷: @_chaney

Thinking back fondly on days in the field, and the friends we made along the way. Scene from above the Green River in Wyoming.

Another week, another chance to post a geographic name that matches up with the calendar.

Anyone been out enjoying some snow lately? Photo: Siskiyou Mountains, Oregon.

Another day, another statehood anniversary. This time, it's #Utah! Seemed fitting to celebrate with a video from a recent field check in the Beehive State. Video: The Virgin River in Zion NP.

Happy statehood day to Alaska! "The Last Frontier" became a state 63 years ago today, but it would take much longer than that to fully explore this vast, wild, and wonderful collection of landscapes. Photo: Mt Deborah, seen from Denali NP.
