Unlike most areas of research and scholarship, economics and economists seem to be uniquely fearful of anything and anyone who investigates their orthodoxy.
Let's be clear-eyed and recognize that economics as a profession and area of study--with few notable exceptions--is the propaganda wing of powerful political actors who fund the work of economists, sustain economics 'departments' in the academy, and support 'think tanks.'
The role of most economists--yes, most--is to provide academic camouflage and rationalization for the wealthiest's robbery from all of us.

Some economists, mostly employed by right wing/conservative/libertarian think tanks, which develop academically plausible propaganda to defend the rich, are out in force attacking an article that appeared in the @guardian.
The basis for the article is "Roadmap for Eradicating Poverty Beyond Growth" which was developed by the mandate of the UN Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights, Olivier De Schutter, to expand the range of policy options available to Member States, international organisations, and civil society in the fight against poverty and inequality, beyond those that rely on economic growth.
This is the site where you can read the 'roadmap' for yourself. Something, it seems, the economists working to create propaganda for the Right would rather you didn't.

For filmmakers, like it or not, AI has made it easier--in many cases--for them to produce their films. However, the issue of distribution still remains a major barrier to people seeing their films. What the streamers and studios have is access to an audience often counted in millions. That's not true for most indepedent filmmakers.

The notion that AI is going destroy human reasoning and creativity is obviously nonsense. Why do I know that? Today's human reasoning and creativity was compromised long, long before the arrival of ChatGPT. The reality that university students couldn't read or write, coming out of secondary school has long been an issue. The dreaded 'slop' has been the dominant feature of human art since someone first realized it could be used to make a living and a profit.
At worst, all AI is doing is making what we thought was the worst of humankind, even more worse.
When you blame AI for anything, you're, in fact, pointing at us.

Yes, the expansion of Billy Bishop Airport is a "Toronto" issue. However, the issue tells us volumes about Prime Minister @MarkJCarney and his MPs. For most things that directly affect the quality of people's lives, they are not just useless, they are now the 'enemy.'
Airports are under federal jurisdiction. Billy Bishop should not be expanded. It should be closed, demolished, and the land added to the Toronto Island park system.
However, because it's under federal jurisdiction, the people of Toronto can be confident that Carney and the @liberal_party MPs will do nothing for them, and they'll let Premier Doug, @fordnation, Ford nation degrade their lives and well-being.

If there were any @liberal_party MPs with integrity and courage and who wanted to effectively represent the people who elected them, they would leave the @MarkJCarney caucus and sit as independents.
If they were independent MPs and Carney needed their votes you can be sure he'd listen to their concerns about the people in their electoral districts.
It would only take 3 Liberal MPs with grit to hold Carney to account. Are there 3 Liberal MPs with grit? Probably not.

He’s a God damn idiot, as are the fools that support him. The “Reflection Pool” wasn’t designed by American architect Henry Bacon a hundred years ago to look like a swimming pool. It’s designed to have a darkened characteristics that has reflective qualities to reflect the monuments.
That way, the Washington Monument is reflective to you when at the Lincoln Memorial, and when at the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial is reflective to you.
It’s designed to enhance the grandeur of monuments, create an illusion of reflection, and inclusion of expansive space of unity.
He’s a tacky vulgar person that vulgarizes everything he touches. America isn’t becoming great, it’s becoming vulgar.
