It included the work of Bet Low, Frances Walker and Frances Pelly. Orkney was a crucial source of inspiration for each of these artists working in their own distinctive styles.

Tessa Jackson, Visual Arts Officer for Glasgow 1990, stated in the catalogue introduction that Glasgow’s title as Cultural Capital of Europe would have been impossible without the existence of Compass Gallery. She also notes that the exhibition shows the breadth and commitment to contemporary artists. Six works were included by Bet Low in this extensive exhibition held at Tramway, a former Glasgow Corporation tram depot that is still in existence today as a venue for exhibitions and events. The exhibition was opened by the then Sir Norman Macfarlane, a great champion of the arts in Scotland.

ALT Abstract oil painting dating to 1961. The title of Green Place may refer to dense woodland. A series of vertical elongated shapes of uneven width are portrayed in blocks of colours of pale yellow near the top and bottom of the image with streaks of brown against green. Three darker columns, from wide to narrow, of bluish-grey, appear in between.

ALT Oil painting entitled Calm Water, Mill Bay, Hoy dating to 1972. The composition is in various shades of grey with a pale white-grey circular moon low above the smooth, rounded forms of the hills. The shapes of the hills are reflected in the still, grey-blue of the water but it is not an exact mirror reflection. A streak of light from the moon shimmers on the water, represented in the painting by a long, narrow rectangular shape defined in gold leaf.
