In 2016 I started my PhD in Sheffield. I'd attend a local boxing class with the recovery community. One of the guys involved had just got sober. Today, I got this email 🥹 hell yeh!

"I think it's important that it's not just 'sobriety is the only way' and that we're also talking about people can really benefit from drinking less... So abstinence is great for me and it works for me, but not everyone's gonna identify with that."
New episode alert! 🎙️ We talk to the amazing @milliegooch about her journey to sobriety, current shifts in drinking, moderation & more! "In conversation with Millie Gooch" alcoholpodcast.buzzsprout.co… #sobriety #sober #alcoholfree

Deaths from alcohol in the north of England have increased far more than in the south, highlighting stark inequalities across the country. Alcohol-specific mortality is 38% higher in the North East relative to the English average. Yet little is being done to prevent this

Another headline avoiding stigmatising terminology.. hope this is a growing trend (and could even indirectly help the issue highlighted of underfunding of alcohol services via lessened stigma) @HMcArdleHT

As anyone following me may have figured I'm now in treatment for a serious health problem. This has meant standing back from work at LSE. My colleagues are kindly organising a celebration for me on March 2nd: lse.ac.uk/social-policy/even…. Do share. Do keep in touch (email is good)

I've refreshed this illustration after a conference at @UWEBristol last week. Removing barriers to health services is not about equality. It's about equity. And to be equitable is to actively address barriers...

There’s been a lot of talk in the past fortnight about pill testing. Turning Point is one of a host of Victorian orgs calling for drug checking & early warning systems, because it’s vital we pursue a health-led response to reduce alcohol & drug harm, & do all we can to save lives
After the recent Hardmission Festival, where a variety of contaminants, high concentrations of MDMA, and hot conditions contributed to nine people being hospitalised, Victoria must continue to pursue a health response that helps people be safe and reduces harm.
