After setting fire to York Minster #OnThisDay in 1829, Jonathan Martin was confined in the Criminal Lunatic Department at Bethlem from 1829-1838. There he produced remarkable artworks typically depicting his prophetic visions. bit.ly/2MyPCRO

#OnThisDay in 1547 Henry VIII died, aged 55. Not long beforehand he had he entrusted Bethlem Royal Hospital to the City of London. A portrait of Henry was hanging first in the Boardroom of the Hospital at Moorfields & subsequently at St. George’s Fields & now at Monks Orchard.
Jill Lockett has stepped down after fifteen years as a trustee of Bethlem Museum of the Mind, and eight years as Chair.
Thank you for all you have done for the Museum, Jill. We will miss you!
