The Mandarin Excellence Programme summer camp kicked off in Beijing on 3 July! Nearly 1,200 students from 62 UK secondary schools are embarking on an 11-day immersive journey across 11 cities to explore the Chinese language and culture. From classroom learning to hands-on experiences, the camp offers more than just Mandarin skills－it will be memories for a lifetime.

Chinese student helpers organised a range of fun sporty activities and much fun was had by all the MEP students in the sports ground. A quick stop via the Seven11 for snacks then back to the hotel to get some well earned rest. Another great day! 3/3 @MEP_Excellence

On Friday, our Mandarin scholars were busy with traditional Chinese paper cutting, calligraphy writing and face mask painting in the style of the Peking Opera (no opera singing required!). Building upon their cultural knowledge and learning some arty skills! @MEP_Excellence

The prestigious MEP Intensive Study in China officially opened with many important dignitaries from the British Council, Department for Education, UCL Institute of Education and the Beijing Language and Culture University. We were super proud of our student’s opening speech.

First day at school! Scholars enjoyed a lesson on hobbies and sports, creating their own poster presentation about which hobbies they do depending on the season and weather.

On Tuesday 24th June, British Athlete James Dasaolu, presented to our Year 9 and 10 cohorts on his journey from attending Loughborough University, to the Olympics and his achievements as an athlete.

Students in Year 9 took advantage of the improved weather to learn about upcycling wooden pallets and turning them into planters. One day these planters will hopefully be used to help grow ingredients for the school kitchens or Food Technology lessons. 🍓🍅🥕🍋🫛🥦
