After last nights AGM where no volunteers came forward to join the committee the Bexley Historical Society folded with immediate effect.
The Society ran for over 70 years and held over 800 meetings with Sally Kirkpatrick as Chairman for 24 years and over 200 of these meetings.
The next and probably final meeting of the Bexley Historical Society and AGM will be on Tuesday 18th Feb.
The meeting takes place at the United Reformed Church Hall Hurst road, opposite the war memorial in Bexley.
Entry is free and doors open at 7:30pm. With the AGM starting 8pm.
After the AGM Brian Biggs will deliver the final talk called Shipwrecked en voyage to the Falklands.
Free tea, coffee and cakes for all.
With 3 of the 4 committee members stepping down and no volunteers willing to step in the B.H.S. will be wound up at the A.G.M.

At the AGM on Tuesday the 20th of August regrettably the committee announced that with dwindling membership numbers (80 pre covid to 22ish 2023) that this year 2024-25 will be the last year for the B.H.S. unless new committee members carry on the Society. TBC
Sally has been the chair person since 2014 and at the next AGM will be stepping down after 20 years. Steve and David will also be stepping down from their roles on the committee leaving only the Treasurer. We have enough funding to see us through to February 2025 tbc
The next meeting will take place

We have speakers booked until the end of the year with the wonderful Steve Hookins giving his last ever talk at our December meeting for free. At the AGM in February 2025 if no new committee is ready to step in and run the BHS it will cease to exist after 75 years.
Unfortunately tomorrow’s scheduled speaker is ill and can’t do the talk. Steve Hookins is replacing him and will be doing a talk explaining the events in Billy Joels song “We Didn't Start The Fire. Doors open 7:30pm and our AGM will start at 7:45. Free tea and coffee for all.
