Coach Beam didnโ€™t just coach football โ€” he changed lives. He saw potential in people before they saw it in themselves, and he pushed generations to rise above every challenge. His legacy lives in every life he lifted. Fly high, Coach.

Legendary Oakland football coach John Beam has passed away after being shot on Laney Collegeโ€™s campus Thursday afternoon, according to police. Loved ones remember Beam as a larger-than-life personality who helped countless athletes turn their lives around and was a "pillar" in the Oakland community. Beam is survived by his wife, two daughters and granddaughters. abc7news.com/18154913/

It was great visiting my guy Delsonโ€”aka โ€œHamma Downโ€! I first met him as a 17-year-old freshman at Adams State University, and now, five years later, Iโ€™ve had the privilege of watching him grow into a strong, driven man. This week, he graduates with his BS degree in Sport & Recreation Management, and we couldnโ€™t be more proud. Melissa and I dropped off some Panipopo and Musubi to celebrate his big accomplishment. Delson has brought countless laughs and good vibes to our family over the years. Cheers to you, brotherโ€”we love you and are beyond proud. Congratulations, my guy! ๐Ÿค™๐Ÿพ๐ŸŽŠ๐ŸŽ‰

We often hear the phrase โ€œ"Find your passion and you'll never work a day in your life". There is truth to that but there is no substitute for hard work. I am grateful for the experiences that Iโ€™ve had in my career. I started my career path working in Higher Education coaching football. Then made the transition from the football field to the classroom as an Assistant Professor. Last year I moved to Albuquerque to start a new career path working in Student Affairs at the University of New Mexico. Regardless of the role, my passion has always been the same โ€œWorking with College Studentsโ€. Whether on the football field, classroom, or student affairs I have always been drawn to student success. Through the years Iโ€™ve had many great memories with students and student-athletes. Itโ€™s hard to put them all on one post or photo. Iโ€™m grateful for all of the experiences Iโ€™ve had with them and look forward to many more to come. I am grateful to start a new position in Student Affairs as a Program Manager for the Asian American Pacific Islander Resource Center at the University of New Mexico. Find you Passion and what makes you Happy and it will never feel like work. Go LOBOS! #countyourblessings
