Thanks @pbsnewshour for featuring @hrw on the consequences of the EU funding #Mauritania to toughen migration/border controls despite documented abuses against migrants. Meanwhile, thousands of migrants die at sea while SAR is insufficient & underfunded. pbs.org/newshour/show/how-eu…

🚨#SaudiArabia is executing #Ethiopian migrants for non violent drug-related offences after unfair trials where detainees were beaten. 65 others await the death penalty. Saudi Arabia’s partners should urgently intervene before it is too late. hrw.org/news/2026/04/28/saud…

This week, Israel’s Defense Minister said Israel would occupy the area south of the Litani River in Lebanon, where hundreds of thousands of people live, and that Shia residents that were forced to leave under Israeli displacement orders will not be allowed to return “until security for Israel’s northern residents is ensured.” That area is around 8% of Lebanon’s territory and is larger than Bahrain, New York City or Singapore. It is twice the size of Gaza.

#Israel's mass displacement in #Lebanon follows the same strategy used in Gaza, the West Bank and Syria. Forced displacement of civilians, widespread destruction and prevention of return. In short, potential war crimes. My opinion for @AJEnglish: aje.news/gn8v60

More than half a million displaced in #Lebanon - a country which already hosts the highest number of refugees (per capita), in the world. States must increase international aid assistance to the Lebanese govt, to help the critical needs of the population.

While the latest financial crisis is threatening to decimate the UN’s human rights work, it has been chronically underfunded for many years – receiving less than 1% of the UN budget despite human rights being one of the organization’s three 'pillars.' hrw.org/news/2026/02/13/un-f…

The Greek govt introduced an immigration bill that explicitly links humanitarian workers w/ criminal conduct, when in reality they R helping people in distress trying 2 reach Greece. Parliament shld reject these provisions & protect civic space. @evacosse hrw.org/news/2026/01/29/gree…

#Mauritania's PM, visiting #Senegal last week, stated that "all African nationals are welcome" in Mauritania. Positive words, but a @Reuters feature last month @hrw's recent report show that many migrants there have faced harsh crackdowns & abuses. reuters.com/investigates/spe…

The US Board of Immigration Appeals ruled on Jan 9 that death threats R not sufficient to establish an asylum claim. Going forward, it appears only death threats that are actually carried out will be sufficient evidence for asylum. justice.gov/eoir/media/14227… justice.gov

My initial thoughts on the possible refugee fallout of US intervention in Venezuela, although this could go any number of ways. In short, no one should be forcibly returned, even if some voluntarily go home. wapo.st/3YkdLgG

The deportees sent by the Trump administration suffered torture, inhumane conditions and, in some cases, sexual violence. Here’s what they told us:

The US has reached a grim milestone — over 100 killings from strikes on boats in the Caribbean and Pacific. These are extrajudicial killings, plain and simple.

Nothing meaningfully links the 19 nationalities for whom entry & immigration processing have been stopped except the administration’s opportunistic stigmatization & exclusion of people based on where they were born. --Tanya Greene, US Program director @hrw hrw.org/news/2025/12/04/us-p…
