School street projects in Paris are my favorite recent trend. Over 200 projects completed around the city impacting over half of elementary/nursery schools. Simple, direct, effective

Comparison of traffic fatalities Greater London (pop: 9.6 million) with Travis County (1.3 million centered in Austin, TX). 30% decrease in London & 235% increase in fatalities (2014 to 2023) in Travis County. One approach working & one approach not.

Pure joy riding with the Bici Bus in Barcelona this morning. A girl on a balance bike with her mom running along with encouragement. A boy running along with a huge smile. Joy, pure joy. Oh, and hard work by parents to make all that joy happen. Thanks to Genis & @jordihoney

Here’s an image of the police escort. Parents go ahead and stop in intersections to shepherd the kids through & then the police follow along at the rear of the parade.

Such a great example of the long push against car dependency and what you get on the other side. Plantage Middenlaan is one of my favorite examples
In cities such as Amsterdam, car dominance is treated not as a problem to be solved but as a potential to be realized. And when the decision is reached to reverse that supremacy and fulfill that promise, the results are absolutely magnificent. Platange Middenlaan. 1987 vs 2024.

NYT article on complications of implementing ped streets in Canada got me thinking. So much opportunity to bring this idea to North America. Copenhagen pioneered network of pedestrian streets 60 years ago & they show what is possible. nytimes.com/2024/08/10/world…
