7-Spot Ladybird was knocked off the No.1 spot for most recorded beetle last month. That honour, perhaps unsurprisingly, went to the Common Cockchafer, also known as the Maybug, with 120 sightings submitted last month!

May was another great month for recording with 21,033 records submitted through Ireland’s Citizen Science Portal. While Hedgehog took the top spot, one of the most notable things from last month was the number of Painted Lady butterflies recorded with 274 sightings.

🌊 **Ocean Oddities!** Measuring less than 2mm wide, Pirimela denticulata thrives in sand and gravel substrates including in the bottom of rockpools. It's found on the west coast but is probably under-recorded. Explore more: exploreyourshore.ie

Did you know that Cuckooflower (also known as Lady's Smock) was the most commonly recorded plant species during April. This species is also the larval foodplant of the Orange-tip Butterfly.

Have you seen this butterfly recently? This is the Painted Lady which is a migratory species and is currently the 6th most recorded species through Ireland's Citizen Science Portal. Records have come in from Donegal to Cork, so it's well worth keeping an eye out!
