This is such an exiting project to be a part of and I'm so grateful for the skills I've learnt (and am continuing to build)!!
We promised you info on genomic surveillance so in 2022, a Yale EMD team became part of a CDC Pathogen Center of Excellence (cdc.gov/advanced-molecular-d…), partnered with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health

This is filling a much needed gap in ONT bioinformatics; I am SO keen to try this tool out, it looks amazing 😍
Strainy is finally out! It enables assembly of individual strains from ONT and Pacbio metagenomes. The secret ingredient is multi-allelic phasing algorithm that does not make assumptions about number and abundance of haplotypes. Unpaywalled link - rdcu.be/dVakX

First thing I do at the minute is message my friends/partner in πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί and catch up on here for 30mins while I plan an review my day! 30mins to get my mind in the zone then onto the day
What's the first thing you do when you get to work (or perhaps what you do to prepare for work if you WFH)? I have a guess that this might involve caffeine, but I'm here to be surprised! #MyScienceMay #SciComm #ScienceLife @letstalkscicomm

I shall maintain the hemisphere difference is my problem for #MyScienceMay I don't think I've ever seen a TV show with a nicely represented genomics lab? But MISS-represented, take your pick (sadly looking at you Jurassic Park πŸ¦–; you too Gattaca, no-one like eugenics 🧬)

Whoops; off to a great #MyScienceMay after missing the first day πŸ˜… I'm Ellen, post-doc @Yale University @YaleSPH looking into respiratory virus genomics! Still trying to figure out my place in the STEM world but we'll get there πŸ‘©β€πŸ”¬πŸ§¬
It's day 1 of #MyScienceMay and today we are wondering.. who are you? What do you do? We're looking forward to meeting you all! You don't have to be in Science directly, anything STEM related is very welcome! @letstalkscicomm

Sci comm catch ups; nothing better! Listen to my spontaneous appearance on @RadioSciLens talking all things zoonotic. Given the increase in avian in non-bird species, I thought it would make for some great discussion and it sure did! Check it here πŸ‘‡ open.spotify.com/show/5k3kPk…

Couldn't have asked for a better final plenary than one delivered by the great virologist @edwardcholmes. Lots of take aways including viruses evolved with their host organisms and we've barley scratched the surface of these interactions, and fur farming is needs to stop. Now. 🦠
